Korean Style Chicken Popcorn
Upgrade your store-bought chicken popcorn by turning them into Korean Style Chicken Popcorn. It is amazingly delicious and very appetizing.
I’ve been really busy with so many things – work, household chores, making recipe videos, editing recipe videos and so many others that I think I’ve been neglecting my blog (Sorry, blog! I am really doing my best. I will do better!). It just came to my realization that video editing is easier than blogging coz it doesn’t require a lot of thinking. Not only my body has been busy these days but also my mind – so many things to think about. I wish I could find a “take a break” button somewhere.
A busy mind, tired body… how am I going to cook something nice and appetizing? It is good that I often have chicken popcorn in the freezer (and nuggets, too). But sometimes, fried chicken popcorn might look boring. Do you agree with me? It is also a good thing that I still have gochujang from last year (not expired, my friends) and thought of using it to make this Korean Style Chicken Popcorn.
You can use store-bought frozen chicken popcorn or you can use your recipe if you have one. This dish is spicy, but you can use less gochujang. I love sweet and spicy dishes so there’s no reason for me not to love this. It is perfect with rice but amazing as an appetizer, too. If you have tried these Korean Fried Chicken, then you will love this dish as well.
You are welcome to watch the recipe video and try the recipe as well. Please let me know when you make it by leaving your comments below, on my YouTube channel or by DM-ing me on Instagram. I really hope you will enjoy the video. 😉
I am taking these with me to this week’s Fiesta Friday #294. Thank you to our host, Angie, and her co-host is Antonia @ Zoale.com.
Korean Style Chicken Popcorn
Ingredients
For the sauce:
- ¼ cup (60 ml) soy sauce
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) rice vinegar
- 6-8 tbsp gochujang lesser if you want less spicy
- 6 tbsp brown sugar
- 8 cloves garlic crushed
- 1 tbsp ginger grated
Others:
- 500 g frozen chicken popcorn
- Cooking oil
- Toasted sesame seeds to garnish
- Spring onions for garnish
Instructions
-
In a saucepan, combine all ingredients for the sauce. Simmer over low-medium heat until it reaches saucy consistency. Set aside until ready to use.
-
Heat a pan over medium-high heat.
-
Add enough cooking oil to accommodate the chicken popcorn.
-
When the oil is hot enough, add the chicken popcorn and cook until golden brown. Remove from the pan and drain excess oil by using a strainer or by using a stack of paper towels.
-
In a bowl, add the cooked chicken popcorn and the sauce. Mix everything together.
-
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and spring onions.
-
Serve with rice or as an appetizer.
Recipe Notes
The sauce can be made ahead – keep it in the fridge and heat the sauce before using.
Thanks a bunch for spending your precious time with me!

I LOVE Korean fried chicken and this is such a great way of recreating it at home. I am definitely not as brave as you because the 6-8tbsp of gochujang got me a little scared haha. I’ll work up to being at your level!

It is kinda spicy, yes, hahaha! I asked my cousin how was it and that’s all she told me – “SPICY”, hahaha. Thank you, Cat. You can use a tablespoon of gochujang if you want. 🙂
