Superfood Chocolate Banana Smoothie
I broke up with my old blender and it’s been set aside for a while now.
I got myself a new high-speed blender and the first thing I wanted to make was a smoothie.
I’ve been making a lot of smoothies, mostly detox smoothies. Then I realized – what’s the use of the detox smoothies I drink when later on that day, I eat pasta?? So I told myself ‘that’s how balanced eating sounds like’.
I’ve been making smoothies with pineapples (lots of pineapples), apples, orange, bananas and spinach. I drink smoothies with the same ingredients over and over and over again. Then my body begged me for something chocolate. I was trying to live a healthy life for 2 days (lol) then I thought of making a smoothie instead of eating a chocolate cake.
I call this Superfood Chocolate Banana Smoothie because it is packed with superfoods like ground flaxseed and chia seeds. Both flaxseed and chia seed are anti-inflammatory, rich in fiber, protein and Omega 3. (You can read more about flaxseed here and chia seed here.)
I also added ripe bananas, cacao nibs (which is also a superfood), cocoa powder and spinach. I wanted to use kale, but spinach was the only thing I had. Of course, I added some liquid like water. You can use milk if you like. Hmmm, almond or cashew milk will be fantastic.
I have made this smoothie several times now and I must say that this is my favorite morning drink before I start my day. Whenever I take this smoothie, I feel full and I don’t easily get hungry. Of course, the first thing I like about this smoothie is it’s so chocolate-y and you know it’s delicious when I say chocolate-y.
I love this smoothie so much. How about you? What is your favorite smoothie? I’d love to know so I can try them, too. 😉
I am taking this smoothie with me at Fiesta Friday #219 and yaaaaas, I am co-hosting! 😀

Wow Jhuls – I’d be so tempted to freeze this for a few hours to try and make it into a delicious ice cream like texture!

That would be a perfect idea, Laura! I will try that once I get myself a new fridge. My freezer seems not working well.

Oh Jhuls, I started reading this and looked at the pic and thought healthy? Lol!! I couldn’t believe it! It looks too chocolate delish to be healthy, but then looked through the ingredients! Wow! I want one, to go please??
Jhuls @ The Not So Creative Cook
I think you were expecting something like a chocolate milkshake?😂 I can’t believe that a smoothie would keep me energized throughout the day and keeps me feel full for a longer time. I make sure to take this especially weekdays so I don’t feel sleepy at work. And yes, I would love to give a glass of this, Mollie.😁

I so wish I wasn’t allergic to bananas… do you think yogurt would suffice? I have a smoothie maker my husband gave me a very long time ago, and I am ashamed to admit that it has hardly ever had anything healthy inside of it…lol!
Jhuls @ The Not So Creative Cook
Why don’t you try avocados?? I’ve read so many things about avocados and chocolates. But I think yogurt would do as well. 😀
Debbie Spivey
Great suggestions, Jhuls. I’ve seen those recipes with avocados too and have been very curious!
Jhuls @ The Not So Creative Cook
I have been very curious, too. Maybe I’ll try avocados next time, too. 🙂 Thanks, Debbie. x

I’ve never tasted smoothie that is kind of healthy and wow…if I make one right now, probably this is the best recipe I would use. Well the first reason to loving this of course is it has CHOCOLATE haha.. who doesn’t love chocolate? I’ve been hearing of flax and chia seeds in YT cooking vlogs..I guess I really have to find them nowadays if I want my food to be a bit healthier. PS. Naku haba ng comment ko Jhuls 1 and 2 hehehe.. Baka hindi na ko makapagcomment nyan sa IG. LOL 😄
Jhuls @ The Not So Creative Cook
Wow! I am surprised to see you here, Julius. (Any shorter name than that?😅) I’ve just combined everything what I think are on the nice side and I am happy with the taste. I never expected I would love a healthy smoothie like this one. And yes, first thing to love here is the word chocolate.😁
PS: I am glad you remember Jhuls 1 and Jhuls 2.😂
Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate your time.☺️
