Hot Honey Avocado Toast

As a Filipino, I grew up with avocados in sweets, not savory dishes—yes, you read that right, sweets! For the longest time, I never really liked avocados on toast or in any savory meals. To me, they were just bland… until I discovered Hass avocados. Their creamier texture and smoother flavor made all the difference. In my opinion, they’re just better, and soon, I found myself obsessed. I never thought I’d crave avocado toast, but now, I totally do… every now and then, at least.

My absolute favorite way to enjoy it? Topped with grated hard-boiled egg (have you tried this?) and a drizzle of honey with chili flakes sprinkled on top. This combination is amazing – creamy, savory, sweet, and spicy. The egg adds a nice textural contrast, the honey balances the richness of the avocado, and the chili flakes bring a little heat to tie everything together. It’s the perfect bite, whether you’re having it for breakfast or as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado I love using hass avo
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 hard-boiled egg optional
  • Honey
  • Chili flakes
  • 2 slices of bread

Instructions

  1. Slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a small bowl. Mash it with a fork, leaving some chunks for texture. Add lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and mix to combine. Set aside.
  2. Heat butter or oil in a hot pan. Add the slices of bread and toast them to your desired level of crispiness, turning them as needed.
  3. Once the bread is toasted, spread the mashed avocado mixture generously over each slice of toast.
  4. Grate hard-boiled eggs on top of the avocado toast, drizzle with honey, and sprinkle with crushed chili flakes for a touch of heat.
  5. Serve the avocado toast while the bread is still warm and crispy!
