NAPORITAN (Japanese Ketchup Spaghetti)

A tomato ketchup-based spaghetti dish - sweet & savoury.

Ingredients

  • 100 g dry pasta cooked according to package instructions
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3/4 cup sliced onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced green bell pepper
  • 2 hotdogs sliced
  • 6-8 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 4-6 tbsp pasta water
  • 1-2 tsp Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Tabasco sauce or hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package instructions.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, add oil and butter.
  3. When the butter is melted, add sliced hotdogs. Cook for 3-5 minutes, then remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Using the same pan, add onion and bell pepper slices. Cook until soft.
  5. Add tomato paste, tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce), and pasta water. Do a taste test, then add the cooked pasta.
  6. Mix until pasta is well-coated with the sauce.
  7. You can do a taste test once again and adjust the taste.
  8. Serve and top with Parmesan cheese and drizzle some Tabasco sauce.

Recipe Notes

  • If you can find Japanese sausage and ketchup, use them.
  • Taste the sauce before adding the pasta.
  • You may need to add salt.
