Dalgona Coffee
Dalgona Coffee. I’ve been seeing photos and videos of Dalgona coffee on my Instagram feed for the past weeks. As a coffee lover, it made me curious how it tastes like. However, the first thing that caught my attention was the velvety whipped topping – it just looks so enticing.
Given that I am a coffee lover, I’d love to try anything coffee but I have to take it slowly this time. I don’t drink caffeinated coffee as frequent as before due to the palpitations I get. But I guess a coffee lover will always be a coffee lover, although I mostly drink decaf coffee for some time now.
At first, I was like “how can the three ingredients (coffee, sugar and hot water) turn into a whipped coffee??” It was like magic and I was really amazed!
I’ve read so many reviews about this trending coffee and one of them was the coffee being strong that you may stay up all night. I didn’t mind those kinds of reviews and I made the coffee anyway. Besides, I am used to sleeping late. 😀
Dalgona Coffee is made of cold milk with ice cubes with a frothy velvety coffee on top. If you are a coffee lover, you’d want to eat that velvety coffee topping as is. In my version, instead of using the regular ice cubes (made with only water), I used ice cubes made with coffee.
The coffee came out really amazing – just like the ones you can buy from a coffeeshop. It can be addicting, I must say. I may try it with decaf coffee so I can enjoy it more often.
I am so excited to co-host and share this with my friends at Angie’s Fiesta Friday #322.
I hope you can try the recipe and let me know. I’ve shared a video on my YouTube channel. Please don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe. See you there! 😉
Dalgona Coffee
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp white granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp coffee granules
- 2 tbsp hot water
- 250-300 ml milk (I used whole milk)
- Coffee ice cubes (you can use regular ice cubes)
Instructions
-
If using coffee ice cubes, make it ahead of time. I made it by dissolving 1 tsp of coffee granules in 1/2 cup (125 ml) warm water. I waited for it to cool down before I transferred it into ice cube tray and let freeze overnight.
The next day:
-
In a bowl, add sugar, coffee granules and hot water. Using an electric mixer and starting with the lowest speed, beat the mixture until coffee and sugar are dissolved. Then, increase the speed to the maximum and continue beating until stiff peaks from. This may take about 5-10 minutes, depending on the speed of your mixer. This can be done using a wire whisk but will take more time. When the mixture is ready, set it aside.
-
In your glass, add ice cubes and milk, then add dollops of the whipped coffee on top. You can garnish with anything you fancy or leave it as is.
-
Make sure to mix before you enjoy!
Recipe Notes
I used 3 tbsp of sugar coz I used coffee ice cubes – I was afraid the taste of the coffee might be too strong. You can use 2 tbsp or more, it’s up to you.
Thanks a bunch for spending your precious time with me!

I’ve seen this all over the net, but it feels just like magic. How can coffee and water whip up into such a beautiful froth? You don’t need to answer this, I guess I’ll just have to try it for myself. It looks amazing. #CookBlogShare

Oh my goodness, this looks amazing! My sister in law made me a coffee similar to this last summer. She used a hazelnut almond milk that really added a great flavor. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
