Lolo Bert’s Giniling (Carinderia Style Giniling)

Tasty ground beef stew that's perfect with rice and gets ready in under 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp grated ginger
  • 6 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 cup diced potatoes
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1-2 beef cubes
  • 2 tsp annatto powder dissolved in 2 tbsp water
  • 750 ml water
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pot over medium-high heat, add cooking oil.
  2. When the oil is hot enough, add ginger and garlic. Cook until fragrant.
  3. Then, add chopped onion. Cook until soft.
  4. Add ground beef and break down into smaller pieces. Cook until almost dry or the liquid has almost evaporated.
  5. Next, add potatoes, soy sauce, annatto powder dissolved in water, beef cube (or cubes) and water. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until cooked.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.

Recipe Notes

  • Other vegetables can be added
  • I like to taste the ground black pepper in every bite so I added more than 1 tsp
  • Leftovers can be turned into "torta" or omelet
