Before the mango season ends, I would like to share with you this recipe for California Maki Chicken Twister.
I tried California Maki Chicken Twister from KFC Philippines and it was love at first bite. When I learned that this twister has chopped mangoes in it, I didn’t hesitate to give it a try. I love the combination of sweet and savory/salty. And it didn’t disappoint.
What made me sad was the fact that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it when I leave the country so I need to make my own. This is not very difficult to make. However, I couldn’t remember how the sauce tastes like. This is the good thing about making your own – you can put any sauce you prefer that goes well with the twister.
I saw recipes using ranch dressing, plain mayo, garlic pepper mayo, spicy mayo, and more. I wanted to try the twister with homemade ranch dressing, but was too lazy to make it. Maybe next time?? I opted for the garlic pepper mayo and made my own. The chicken tenders I used were bought from KFC, though. Also too lazy to fry.
THIS CALIFORNIA MAKI CHICKEN TWISTER IS AMAZING!!
I am not a huge fan of twisters or tortilla wraps because I really don’t do well in the wrapping job, but I don’t mind if it’s this California Maki Chicken Twister or maybe I can do this using this tortilla wrapping hack.
Anyway, I really loved how this turned out – the amazingness of the sweet and savory combination, and that garlic pepper mayo is perfect in this twister.
NOTES:
- The imitation crab is optional.
- If you dislike the sauce, you can use whatever you prefer. The garlic pepper mayo recipe below is good for 4-5 twisters. I made more and used it as a dipping sauce for the extra chicken strips I had.
- You can make your own chicken strips instead of buying. I was just lazy to do it so I bought them instead.
