Smashed Cheesesteak Tacos
I’ve been seeing a lot of videos of smashed burger tacos on TikTok, and I told myself I’m going to try it too. However, after trying steak loader wrap from a famous fast-food chain, I had a change of heart. I decided to make smashed cheesesteak tacos instead.
Why the change of heart? Simply because I had a craving for anything cheesesteak and this is easier to prepare. And unlike the classic burger, smashed cheesesteak tacos don’t require a sauce.
To make Smashed Cheesesteak Tacos:
Start by cooking green bell pepper and onion in some oil until soft. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
Next, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Take some seasoned ground beef and spread it out to the edges of each mini tortilla.
Add the mini tortillas with smashed beef to a pan with a bit of oil, placing the beef side down. Flip to “cook” the tortilla. During this step, add a slice of cheese on top of the cooked beef and cover the pan to melt the cheese. You can also add a little shredded mozzarella cheese.
Once the cheese is melted, remove it from the pan and transfer it to a plate. Top with the cooked green bell pepper and white onion.
The Smashed Cheesesteak Tacos are now ready to be enjoyed!
These Smashed Cheesesteak Tacos are perfect for a quick dinner or a tasty snack. They’re easy to make and sure to satisfy your cravings. So, next time you’re in the mood for something deliciously different, give these soft tacos a try – your taste buds will thank you!
NOTES ON SMASHED CHEESESTEAK TACOS:
- I used cheddar cheese slices but you can make your cheese sauce. I have a recipe here.
- You may need to clean the pan (I used paper towels) after a batch or so of cooking the beef with the tortilla.
- Instead of melting it in the pan, you can also torch the cheese.

Smashed Cheesesteak Tacos
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- Salt & pepper
- Cooking oil
- 1 large green bell pepper chopped
- 1 large white onion chopped
- 7 cheddar cheese slices
- 7 mini tortillas
Instructions
-
Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add onion and green bell pepper. Stir for a few minutes, then season with salt and pepper. Cook until soft. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
-
Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide into 7 (or 8) portions. Smash or spread the ground beef on each mini tortilla, covering it to the edges.
-
Prepare a non-stick pan over low-medium heat. Place the mini tortillas with smashed beef, beef side down. Cook for a few minutes, then flip to cook the tortilla. (Note: you can use a bit of oil before cooking; I tried but I was not too fond of the result.)
-
While on this step, add a slice of cheese on top of the cooked beef, and cover the pan to melt the cheese.
-
Once the cheese is melted, remove it from the pan and transfer it to a plate.
-
Add the cooked green bell pepper and white onion on top, fold to create a taco, and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
- I used sliced cheese for burgers, but you can make your own cheese sauce. I have a recipe here.
- You may need to clean the pan (I used paper towels) after a batch or so of cooking the beef with the tortilla.
- Instead of melting it in the pan, you can also torch the cheese.
