Party Angel Food Cake + Recipe Video (5th Blogiversary Post)
Hey, guys! My blog is turning 5 today and what’s more amazing than celebrating it with this Party Angel Food Cake?
I can’t believe my blog is 5 years old now. Whenever my blog is turning a year older, I couldn’t help but remember those times when I was still thinking about whether to create a blog or not. Or what to name my blog. Time flies so fast, yes?
I haven’t made anything for the 4th blogiversary last year, so I thought of making something really special this year. Why special, you ask?
First, if you know me well, I love eggs, so it would be a sacrifice for me to spend a large number of eggs in cakes or anything that’s not called ‘sunny side up’. Hahaha! So this cake is special to me.
Second, I don’t make cakes often – only during special days. Today is one of those special days.
I chose to make this Party Angel Food Cake because I didn’t see a reason why not. I saw this recipe from Sally @ Sally’s Baking Addiction and you know that when it’s from Sally, it’s a winner.
I was nervous at first because, in this Party Angel Food Cake, you need good quality sprinkles that don’t stain. Gladly, I found a good and cute one.
(In the photo below, I only used the glittery, star-shaped sprinkles with the cake. I used the colored and chocolate strands only for the topping.)
This Party Angel Food Cake is something you should add to your ‘to-bake list’. It is fluffy, airy, and oh so so good! Should I also mention that it is so pretty? I promise – you will love this cake!
Before I go, let me give you the third reason why this 5th blogiversary is special.
I have just launched (like a movie, huh) my first recipe video. I am feeling nervous and excited at the same time.
You can find my YouTube channel here. If you can spend some of your precious time, I would really appreciate if you could pay a visit and let me know what you think of the video.
Please note that this cake uses egg whites ONLY. If you’d like to check out a cake that uses whole eggs, I have a good recipe for Chiffon Cake and it’s also as good as this one. Or do you want to make this cake, but don’t know what to do with egg yolks? Why not try this Leche Flan?
I am sharing this recipe at Angie’s Fiesta Friday #220. The talented Mollie & I are co-hosting. You still have time – come and join the fun!
Party Angel Food Cake
Ingredients
For the cake:
- 350 g white sugar
- 130 g cake flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- 12 large egg whites
- 1 ½ tsp cream of tartar
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 - 2/3 cup sprinkles see notes
For the dark chocolate ganache:
- 200 ml heavy/whipping cream
- 200 g chopped dark chocolate
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 F and position the oven rack in the middle.
-
In a food processor, add 350 g of white sugar and pulse until fine.
-
Remove 190 g of sugar from the food processor and set aside to use with the egg whites.
-
To the remaining sugar in the food processor, add 130 g of cake flour and salt. Pulse 5-10 times. Set aside.
-
In a stand mixer, add 12 large egg whites and cream of tartar. Beat until foamy.
-
Gradually add the 190 g sugar until soft peaks form.
-
Add in vanilla extract and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
-
Transfer the meringue (egg white mixture) to a larger bowl.
-
Sift and carefully add the flour-sugar-salt mixture using the cut and fold technique and using a rubber spatula. Do this in three portions and make sure to scrape down the bottom and sides of the bowl.
-
Now, carefully mix the sprinkles to the mixture.
-
Transfer the mixture to an ungreased tube pan.
-
Bake in the preheated oven at 350 F for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
-
Remove the pan from the oven and invert the pan/turn the pan upside-down so the cake doesn’t deflate or sink too much.
-
Let the cake cool completely (about 3 hours).
For the ganache:
-
In a heatproof bowl, add chopped dark chocolate. Set aside.
-
In a saucepan, add heavy/whipping cream. Heat until you see bubbles around the edges. Pour over chocolate and let sit for 2 minutes.
-
Using a whisk, mix chocolate and cream until glossy.
When the cake has cooled completely:
-
Run a knife around the edges of the cake. Transfer to a serving plate and top with dark chocolate ganache and more sprinkles.
Recipe Notes
- It is recommended to use sprinkles that don’t stain.
- It is also very important that you weigh your ingredients (sugar, flour & chocolate).
- Keep the leftovers in the fridge.

Congratulations Jhuls – 5 years is quite an accomplishment. Look at how much your site has improved and the things you’ve been able to accomplish, and not just recipes. I haven’t had an angel food cake in a very long time – I want one 🙂

Happy Blogoversary!! The cake looks great! liked the video alot! Maybe the camera could be back just a bit more distance, and I’m not so sure about the music! I can’t even imagine what my first video will look like, but I promise it won’t be pretty, lol!!!
Jhuls @ The Not So Creative Cook
I hate the lighting in this video and this video is my second attempt in making a video for this cake. The first one was messy – bowl, kitchen towel, spatula were there, and not in a nice way. In the mixer’s turn, I didn’t like how close the camera was, but the tripod and everything around will reflect on the bowl – now you know that reason why it’s very close. Hahaha!! But I will find a solution for that.
Thanks a lot, Mollie. I appreciate your honest comment. x
FrugalHausfrau
Interesting about the reflection! I had to get a new mixer and almost ordered a chrome one w/o thinking about it – then I cancelled it and got a red one! Now I think I should have gotten white. oh well!!
Jhuls @ The Not So Creative Cook
When you see more videos from me and looks like the camera would swallow the whole thing in the screen, that’s a reflection issue. Hahaha
FrugalHausfrau
But Jhuls, only your second try and look how good it is!! You’ll be an absolute pro in no time!!
