Tricky Tuesday #14: Peppermint Tea
As I am writing this, I am enjoying a cup of mint tea. Nothing fancy at all – hot water with 15 fresh mint leaves. I would have enjoyed it so much better if I am not feeling floating, er, bloated. 😛
Aside from migraine, I suffer from stomach pain almost every week due to bloatedness. It just pops up like pop corn. I do feel bloated after I eat too much. And you could imagine that I always overeat (which I should try avoiding SOON). I hope somebody could just tell me to stop overeating or else the fridge will be taken away… or the kitchen itself. 😀
I have found out that peppermint tea lessens, if not eliminates, the pain.
Peppermint is a hybrid mint, a cross between watermint and spearmint. Now here’s the confusion goes. What kind of mint (if the three are different) we usually see in our markets? Anyway, as far as I know, they are both good in healing stomach problems.
Now, let’s get to know the benefits of Peppermint Tea.
Soothing your stomach – Often called the “stomach healer,” peppermint herb tea also helps in the promotion of good digestion while also cutting down on heartburn. It can also soothe stomach aches, stomach pains, stomach cramps or diarrhea.
Relaxation – Hmm, aside from Chamomile tea, I had no idea that drinking Peppermint tea helps you with having a good night sleep.
“You have a greater chance of falling asleep if you are actually relaxed when your head hits the pillow, so drinking peppermint herb tea before bed is a great way to prepare yourself for a restive night of good, sound sleep. If you are suffering from sleep deprivation, you may want to try peppermint her tea for that reason alone; it has been shown to battle sleep deprivation quite effectively, which ties in to its overall benefit of helping to relax you for sleep.”
Weight Loss – get some help from Green + Peppermint Tea if you want to shed pounds. Of course, this alone could not help you lose weight. As I said, the tea only helps when you have slow metabolism. Also, in some cases, Peppermint tea can act as an appetite suppressant.
Stress Relief – The menthol that is naturally present in peppermint is a muscle relaxant, thus, it helps with stress and anxiety.
Natural Decongestant – Yes, you can find medicines that aid in sinuses. But for me, peppermint tea is one of the best natural remedies. Peppermint tea helps you clear your sinuses and soothe sore throats. Not to mention, it’s delicious, too.
I hope this information helps. And thank you for spending time with me today.
Do you know other benefits of Peppermint Tea that’s not listed here? Write them down in the comment box below. I’d be happy to know about it.

I just ate a peppermint cookie! Maybe that has the same benefits?! Just kidding, but peppermint tea sounds so beneficial (as well as ginger which I read further up in the comments). I love reading these posts where you talk about the health benefits of different foods. And, hopefully the bloating is calming down as well. 🙂

I realized I used to overeat and that caused so much bloating and discomfort for me. I have since reduced portions and usually take a hot cup of peppermint and ginger tea before retiring to bed. I love the combo and thanks for sharing the benefits of what I’m already taking!
Jhuls
Oh, I haven’t tried ginger tea with peppermint. I used to take fresh ginger tea before bed as well. I guess I need to go back to that. And this time, I will add peppermint. 🙂 Thanks, Liz.
