Cassava Cake
Today is such a lovely day as Fiesta Friday is here once again. Angie has been so kind to accommodate everybody at her place at The Novice Garderner. Hmm, I wonder what others are bringing today. 🙂 (I always do!)
As for me, I am bringing a Filipino dessert called Cassava Cake and I hope you’ll love it. Cassava Cake is a cake made from… what else? Cassava! 😀
It was one of those days in which I was craving for something. There are lots of foods bubbling up and I don’t know which of them shall I make? Could I make them all? I think I can. I just need to stay in the kitchen for days hours to make all of them. 😀 Most of the foods I can think of are all Filipino foods. It just came to me that… maybe, I was really craving for this Filipino Beefsteak and that was the main reason why I made it few days back. You think? So after going through all the foods I thought of, I decided to make this cake.
The recipe requires frozen grated cassava, but I was a little ‘energetic’ and decided to grate fresh cassava. Imagine me grating 1 kg of cassava. Whew! That was really something – something that gave me an arm workout. 😀

After I have sliced the Cassava Cake for you, (ooppps! I took a bite!)
Sorry. 😀 I guess I’ll have to slice another one for everybody. <3
Enjoy and have fun! 🙂

Will be making this one Jhuls! Do you think cassava powder can be substituted for the fresh cassava?
Jhuls
Hmm, I don’t know about that. Aren’t you able to buy the fresh ones from the palengke and grate just what I did? 🙂

I just noticed this recipe, my sister-in-law is Filipino and this is my fav dessert that she makes, its the one I always request from her, thanks for sharing your recipe, pinned!
Jhuls
I just made this cake last week, Lily – one for me and one for my friend. I was supposed to make only for her, but I could not accept the fact that she will enjoy it and I will not. So I did make for me, too. 😀
davegon
I’m going to try this! Looks Good.
Jhuls
If I could, I would bake this every weekend! 😀 I hope you like it and oh, please let me know your thoughts! 🙂
davegon
I will. 🙂
Jhuls
Thanks! 🙂

Yum–I love cassava cake! Yours looks so decadent! Where do you normally go to buy cassava?
Jhuls
Hi, Ada! Cassava in the Philippines is everywhere! Hahaha! But I usually get in the veggie market… you know, along with the fresh veggies. I did not find frozen cassava.
Cindy
Good on you – it looks delicious!
Jhuls
Thank you, Cindy! 🙂

I sadly don’t even know what Cassava is… argh! I need to google it! The cake looks lovely though, custardy and delicious. Great post Jhuls xx
Jhuls
I was surprised as so may bloggers ask me about Cassava. I thought they are available everywhere! 😀 Anyway, the cake was really delicious. With all the people asking me, it seems I love to bake this again. 🙂 Thanks, Laura! Have a lovely week to you!
saucygander
Wow, you grated fresh cassava? Kudos! And that cake… wow, it looks and sounds amazing, I think I can find frozen cassava in Asian supermarkets, so will give this a go! 😀
Jhuls
Yes, I did! 😀 If you find frozen cassava, please give this a go and please let me know what you think. 🙂

Thank you so much! I hope you do let me know what you think of it. 😉 Have a fabulous weekend!

Have never heard of cassava but it looks so creamy and delicious. Is it similar to a custard at the end?
Jhuls
Mmm, the topping is similar as custard but this is more tasty (for me) because of the coconut milk. As for the cake itself, I am not so sure how to describe it to you. 😀 Thank you so much for stopping by! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. <3
Arl's World
This looks so good! I will have an extra large slice please! 🙂

Lovely! I was wondering about the cheese, too but see it is cheddar in the comments. Any recommendations if I can’t find cassava? I want a slice of this so badly!
Jhuls
I think fresh cassava can be found in the veggie market or in the veggie section of your local grocery store. 🙂 I don’t think cassava is replaceable as it is the main ingredient in this cake. 😉 I hope you do find some cassava. Thanks for coming over. Have a lovely weekend!
angenette
I looked it up and it is also called yucca! I know what that is 😉 haha! Shows you how much I use it, but your pictures make me want to try!
Jhuls
Could you please let me know your thought on this when you try it? 😀 Thanks a lot for stopping by!
chefjulianna
This looks delicious, Jhuls, but I’m wondering…is there a piece of this beside your bed next to the marshmallow cream?? 😀
Jhuls
Nah! I didn’t put a slice of this next to my bed. It went directly to my tummy! 😀 The marshmallow already left my bed and it want to join the other buddies in the ‘food shelves’ 😀
strictlydelicious
Oooo Jhuls, you have my mouth watering. I’ve never even hear of cassava in a cake, but this looks incredible. Please cut me a slice! And then hand that slice to someone else and give me the whole pan!
Jhuls
Ohhh! You really love taking the pan, huh? Okay, I will give all of them to you… and let’s give one slice to everybody! 😀
strictlydelicious
Haha I get greedy with your food! You should probably put me at the back of the line… I’ll wait my turn and just see how much everyone loves their cake! Ooor just give me a regular slice and a tiny fork!
Jhuls
I will bake another pan and that’s only for you! 😀 Thanks for coming over. <3
strictlydelicious
You’re the most generous hostess ever!
Jhuls
Haha! I hope the others who have only one slice will see me that way, too! 😀
Lori
First of all, this looks good! Second of all…..and don’t laugh Jhuls ;-), but what is Cassava?
Jhuls
Okay, I will not laugh! There are also some that I am not familiar of. 😀 Cassava is also called Manioc, Yucca or Tapioca-root. 🙂 I think you have some fresh cassava in your local veggie market. 🙂
Lori
Hahaha…After reading this, I still have no idea what Cassava is! 🙂 Okay, so I am at least getting that it is a vegetable? I thought maybe it was cheese because you mentioned grating…roflol! Hey, I am a newbie to this whole food thing after all! 😉 Maybe I need to take you shopping with me…. 🙂
Jhuls
That’s the thing – I don’t have no idea if cassava is a veggie or fruit. Haha! What I know is it is a root. You can check with our friend, Google. 😀 Yeeesss!! I would love that – we shopping together. Please note – that is a grocery shopping. 🙂
Lori
Hahaha….okay we have narrowed it down to a fruit or vegetable. I think fruit sounds better…LOL! 🙂 Yes, I suppose google would be quite helpful at this point! 😉 We are so funny! LOL…..you don’t want to go clothes shopping or shopping for decorations with me?! 😉
Jhuls
Oh! I would love to, but shopping for clothes and decorations sounds so dangerous!! Hahaha Let’s stick to grocery shopping! 😀
Lori
Hehehe! 🙂 I don’t know….grocery shopping with the two of us….could be dangerous as well! Or maybe that is just the cooking we would do in the kitchen afterwards! 😉
Jhuls
Yeah! Better if we would just hang out in the kitchen 🙂 What time is it now with you, Lori?
Lori
Hehehe :-). It is 9 am. You?
Jhuls
It’s past midnight – 12:05 AM. 😀 Is it now Saturday with you?
Lori
Friday morning for me…where are you at? Didn’t realize you were in a different country than me. 🙂 You are a night owl just like me I see!
Jhuls
I’m in the Philippines. 🙂 Oh, I am such a night owl. 😀 It’s already Saturday for me.
Lori
Philippines…neat! I too am a night owl….mornings, not so much! 🙂
Jhuls
I am a morning person and night owl at the same time. So you should know by now that I don’t get that much of sleep. 😀
Lori
Wow! Impressed!
Jhuls
😀 Enjoy the day, Lori! Need to say my ‘talk to you tomorrow’ as I need to snore now. 🙂 Mwaaaaaah
Lori
Hehehe…night night! I need to get off this thing too, and start my day. 🙂
Jhuls
Okay! See you around! 😉 Be safe! <3

Love the look of this cake Jhuls! I wonder if I can find cassava here 🙂
Jhuls

I love this! I ate manioc (same as cassava, right?) every day twice a day for 6 months when I was in Brazil, and I loved it. But I have no idea where to find it here in Los Angeles.
Jhuls
Yes, Manioc is same as cassava. 🙂 Maybe you could find it in the vegetable market or in a veggie section of a grocery store/supermarket?
Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day! 🙂
Nancy
I think your craving really paid off for all of us at Fiesta Friday Jhuls! Your cake looks scrumptious. I love the lightly browned top and gleam from the egg wash. I’m assuming this is from the use of the broiler?!? This cake something new for me…and I love trying new foods 🙂 Thanks for bringing it to Fiesta Friday so we could all have a little nibble!
Jhuls
Hello, Nancy! I am so glad you stopped by and it’s so nice that you’re co-hosting the Fiesta! 🙂
Yes, it’s from the broiler. The almost black ones mean that it’s almost burnt. 😀 I will try another step of browning the topping and update everyone! 🙂 Have a great weekend and happy Fiesta! <3
Nancy
The darker ones don’t look burnt at all, they look fantastic – don’t change anything 🙂
Happy weekend and Fiesta Friday to you too! xx

That’s greay Jhuls, it really is! I’ve always seen the cassava in the supermarket here in Montreal, but I’ve always forgotten to look for some recipes and try to do something with the cassava. Your cake is really intriguing, I’m going to give it a try! thanks for sharing!
