Crab Paste Fried Rice

I am back again with another fried rice recipe, and now, it’s with crab paste.

Crabs were introduced to me when I was still a child. I used to watch my Mom enjoy every part of crab that are edible. She was a huge fan of squash/pumpkin with crabs cooked in coconut milk.  And I think, I love crabs because of her. However, she used to complain about high blood pressure after eating crabs. She was really a huge fan (especially the crab fat) that she used to eat a lot of it. Because of that, this stuck on my mind: crab fat/crabs = hypertension.

I haven’t eaten crabs for such a long time because of that thought. Late last year, I finally gave in. Oh! It was so good and I enjoyed every bite. I finally learned that I don’t have to deprive myself of the foods I love as long as I eat them moderately. That’s why I got crab paste from MichMari. I mean, I will not eat the whole bottle at once, so why not try it??

Anyway, I really don’t know how to make a crab paste so I could not give a proper introduction, and each one prepares it differently.

This post is not sponsored. I just love MichMari’s products – from gourmet tuyo to her baked goods. If you want to check out her products, please visit her Instagram account.

WAYS TO ENJOY CRAB PASTE OTHER THAN FRIED RICE

It is used as a condiment or it can be used to season soups, pasta, rice, stews and a lot more. This time, I added it to my fried rice.

The crab paste brought the fried rice to a new level of deliciousness. I always enjoy my fried rice with egg, but I also served this with MichMari’s gourmet tuyo. It was flavorful and perfect!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • ¼ cup red bell pepper chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp crab paste I used MichMari’s crab paste
  • 2 cups cooked rice one day old
  • Salt to taste
  • Sliced spring onions
  • Fried eggs of choice
  • Gourmet tuyo to serve (optional, but yum)

Instructions

  1. In a pan over medium-high heat, add cooking oil.
  2. When the oil is hot enough, add garlic and cook until fragrant. Add red bell pepper (or any vegetable of your choice) and cook until soft.
  3. Add 2-3 tbsp of crab paste. You can add more later if you like. Add cooked rice and mix until rice is warmed up.
  4. Season with salt and add sliced spring onions, mix again. Do a taste test and adjust as per your liking. You can add more crab paste at this point.
  5. Turn off the heat and serve with fried egg of choice.
  6. This can be served with MichMari’s gourmet tuyo or gourmet tinapa. It’s really good!

Recipe Notes

  • You can add shrimps and other seafoods.
  • It’s also lovely to squeeze lemon or calamansi before enjoying, to give that delicious citrusy taste.
  • I don’t recommend adding a lot of crab paste or else it might be overpowering. Also, it’s not good for people especially the ones with hypertension if you consume a lot.
